Does Harper Government Support Anti-Abortion Activists?

Whooee! Well friends and foes, I was just over to JJ, the Unrepentent Old Hippie's boog. JJ posted this here YouTube of a bigass anti-abortion march up on Parliament Hill. There's a big banner with the official trademark of the Government of Canada. Seems they call it the Canada Wordmark and it's protected so nobuddy supposed to use it without permission. Frank Frink's found another YouTube that shows the official wordmark in English and in French.

Yeow! Sometimes I get my knickers in a twist when I see that "Canada" logo at the end of some dumbass TV show or movie. That tells me that our tax money went into helpin' get the Trailer Park Boys on Showcase. I reckon there's some Canajuns who maybe think that the gummint oughta fund anti-abortion groups and dumbass TV shows.

When I see the wordmark in the credits of Trailer Park Boys, I take it as a bigass indication that the Gummint of Canada gave 'em some dough. When I seen that wordmark on the March for Life banner, I reckon it indicates official gummint suport.

I hope we find out if Parliament is funding the folks who march on Parliament. Anybuddy know?

Whooee! Thanks Jim Bobby! Hey, can you imagine if the wordmark was used on a banner in the Pot Rally that was going on that same day?

Why not, the weed warriors drew a bigger crowd!

If the government was funding it, the opposition would be the first to mention it.

Thanks JimBobby!

Garth Turner has now posted on his weblog - www.garth.ca

He agrees that it sure 'suggests' the event had federal funding. According to Garth there were also a dozen MPs on the stage at the event, 10 Conservatives and two with no party affiliation noted.

At least it would appear that someone will be asking questions. QP this week? Stay tuned.

Perhaps most of us don't know yet but it seems that many folks (myself in a Liberal riding included) are writing their MPs to asking this very question.

Go ahead, write your MP and ask, he/she should respond.

I'll keep an eye out for this one when reading the Hansard tomorrow morning to see [a] if any of the Opposition parties bring this up, and [b] how they justify it.

Whooee! Thankee all kindly fer chimin' in.

I reckon Vek maybe ain't got much faith in the power o' the Canajun Boogeysphere. If the opposition only finds out on accounta a few boogers post up pitchers and ask questions, then it'll turn out that the bloggers and not the opposition were the first to mention it.

With a few boogers writin' to their MP's, I reckon somebuddy'll hafta ask about it. I hope they ask in the House o' Comments so we'll get a public answer ASAP. I suggested to ol' Garth that he ask Vic Toews about it.

Apparently the government had nothing to do with it. Someone affiliated with the march has clarified this over at Big City Lib's place. It was the work of a careless freelancer.

A careless freelancer, an honest mistake, and the CPoC is gonna let it ride - sorry, I don't buy it.

If some group that the government did not have quite so much sympathy for made a mistake like this we'd see cops seizing the banner and statements made in The House on how inappropriate such usage was.

I read the official transcript of yesterdays proceedings and there was absolutely no mention, by any party, of it.

Whooee! Thankee all fer chimin' in. It looks like the Treasury Board's on the case now.

The Globe's got a story. They're crediting bloggers with calling attention to the logo.

here's my cynical take, the government is investigating because of bloggers asking questions - not because bloggers pointed it out.

If this had never hit the blog-o-sphere Canada's Nu Government would have done squat.

I think I'll take a run over to the BT folks and see how much maligned they are feeling over this :-)
