Ol' JB sings a mournful tune: Hang Down Your Head, Peter MacKay

Whooee! Well, friends an' foes, I recorded up another song. This one's all about that famous liar from down east in Nova Scotia, Peter MacKay. I reckon ol' Petey really oughta hang down his head in shame. If he thinks anyone believes his BS, he's delusional.

Bad Focus, A Leading Question and Wedge Politics

Whooee! Well, friends an' foes, today's the day our gummint goes back to work after another 13 week vacation. While the MPs were away from the House, "a total of $14 billion (has) been added to our national debt." Every poll in the past year or more has indicated that the biggest concern for Canadians is the economy. Yet, our spendthrift Conservative government is in full drunken sailor mode. $16 billion for new, unneeded F-35 stealth fighter jets. $6 billion for new prison cells to house unconvicted criminals who have committed unreported crimes. More than a billion on security for a few hours of face time with fellow promise breakers at the G8/G20. $35 billion for new ships.

Not only is our government preaching austerity while spending money at an unprecedented rate, it is spending most of its time and energy dealing with an issue that's barely a blip on the radar of public concern. The long gun registry is a pet issue for a few NRA types who make loud noises (like their guns) and have hijacked -- with the help of Harper's MPs -- the public agenda. While all hands need to be on the economy deck, the fight being waged is one of wedge politics where the ruling party is attempting to divide Canadians along rural-urban boundaries.

Here's the way my own MP, Diane Finley, is wasting her time and money. Remember, we the people are Diane's employers. When she wastes her time and money, she's actually wasting our time and money. Here's what Diane sent out to her constituents last week.

Notice how Diane says she has her mind made up and she will vote to repeal the registry. Then, she says she needs my support and help and I should get in touch. What help can I give? I can't vote in the Commons. She's the only one from Haldimand-Norfolk who can vote and she's already decided how.

She wants people to answer her question and send back their Yes or No response to her question: "Do you support getting rid of the wasteful and ineffective gun registry?" No need to worry about postage, registry opponents. Diane, or rather the taxpayer, has that covered.

Nothing leading about that question, is there? Who would answer "No, I don't support getting rid of something that's wasteful and ineffective"?

When a handful registry opponents take the time to respond with their meaningless Yes answers, Diane can then tell the media or anyone who asks that the bulk of the mail she's received supports killing the registry.

The big problem with trying to create a rural-urban rift is that so-called rural ridings are not entirely rural. Haldimand-Norfolk is comprised a several small towns, ranging in population from about 15,000 to a couple thousand. The residents of those towns are hardly all farmers or hunters. The farmers in the rural riding are, in reality, a small minority. Most voters in my rural riding live in town. I suspect there may be proportionally a few more hunters in small towns than in Toronto but most small town residents are neither hunters nor gun owners.

The tactic of dividing Canadians into Toronto and Montreal versus rural Canada will fail simply because politicians like Diane Finley do not really know what their constituents want. They will never know as long as they ask leading questions for which there is only one acceptable answer.

Ballad of Fake Lake (Edmund Fitzgerald)

Whooee! Well, friends an' foes, ol' Susan Delacourt put up a twitterin' tweet how she'd like to see some new lyrics to ol' Gord Lightfoot's Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald with a theme all about the G20 Fake Lake. Since I got me a little experience in re-writin' that there song, I took up the challenge. Here it is:

Ballad of Fake Lake

The legend lives on from Toronto on down
Of a six inch deep pond they call Fake Lake
The lake, it is said, made the blue Cons turn red
When they realized they'd made such mistake.

With a Muskoka chairs and canoes in the air
The fake lake was meant to thrill writers
A pleasant surprise, there ain't no blackflies,
No mosquitoes or other skin biters.

Fake Lake was the pride of the Conservative side
With fake loon songs and JumboTron pictures
Of real lakes and woods and handcrafted goods
And all the outdoors you could wish for.

Surrounded by concrete and security teams
They relax by pool that's reflecting
While they sip on free beer they need never fear
Uncouth Torontonians protesting.

They'll file their stories of promises made
That the G20 leaders had spoken
But every man knew, as the leaders did, too,
Promises are made to be broken.

The dawn came early for the hungover scribes
And the G20 pow-wow had ended
Outdoors they must go to the real world and so
Reality's no longer suspended

Does anyone know where Steve Harper will go
The next time they hold a G20
He'll be headed headed for Seoul, just another black hole
For wasting the taxpayers' money.

I ain't got time to sing it an' make a MP3 right now on accounta I gotta cook the macaroni an' cheese fer Ma's supper. Maybe I'll get it recorded tomorrow.

Do McGuinty and Charest Reject Carbon Tax?

Whooee! I was just over to Steve V's fine blog, Far and Wide, where he's talkin' about the new cap-and-trade deal between McGuinty and Charest. Steve's post is mostly about how PitBullBoy Baird is all hot under the collar and don't like the idea of the provinces workin' independently for the sake of the planet. I hear Dubya says the same things about Schwartzenegger.

An anonymous commenter characterized the deal as a rejection of carbon taxes. Here's what the nameless one said.
Anonymous said...

Interesting that you do not note that the two Liberal premiers of the two largest provinces where the Liberals need to maintain and acquire new seats have REJECTED Mr. Dion's carbon tax and favour the NDP cap and trade approach.

I agree that a realignment in QC may be in the works but I wouldn't be gleeful about it if I were a Liberal activist.

The Charest/Dion enviro message will reinforce the NDP narrative come election time.

8:06 AM, June 02, 2008

I think we can safely assume the anonymous commenter is an NDP backer.

REJECTED? I ain't so sure about that.

I don't see this as a rejection of a carbon tax. In many European and Scandinavian jurisdictions, carbon taxes and cap-and-trade work side-by-side to reduce GHG's.

McGuinty has said he prefers the cap-and-trade tactic but I can't recall any quotes where he's rejected or even REJECTED a carbon tax. Dion did reject a carbon tax not long ago. I'm sure we'll all be reminded by anonymous NDP commenters soon enough. Dion changed his mind and the carbon tax idea is getting quite good acceptance. McGuinty and Charest won't be afraid of embracing a winning idea; especially, one that they haven't actually rejected.

If I purchase a new sofa, that does not mean I REJECT chairs. It simply means that I am adding one component to my living room seating capacity.

The Green Party is calling for a multi-pronged approach with two of those prongs being a carbon tax and sector by sector cap-and-trade implementation. Most observers and experts seem to think each system has merit. Proponents of each argue as to which is faster to implement.

In an interview last week, Iggy broadly hinted that the Grits will include cap and trade in their tax shift proposal.

The only ones who are REJECTING actions known to be positive are the NDP and the Con's. The NDP's rejection of a carbon tax flies in the face of EU experience and Kyoto target-meeting results.

Only the Con's are rejecting cap-and-trade and rejecting a carbon tax. Their plan: wait until after the US election to see what their masters dictate. Stall, obfuscate, nit-pick, demonise, scare and promote the status quo.

It is a well known fact that the federal government is the most effective arm of government when it comes to applying and collecting taxes. Outside of Quebec, we use the federal government to collect provincial income tax as well as most taxes. Also, wrt the revenue neutral tax shift idea, the provinces don't collect enough income tax to make a revenue neutral carbon tax a well-funded environmental solution.

Besides, somebody has to do something. The provinces, like some US states, are realizing that the federal level i sluggish and ill-inclined to act to save ol' Mother Earth. BC has introduced a carbon tax. The Western provinces are working on an international carbon market with some western states. Ontario and Quebec are collaborating on a cap-and-trade system.

The Fed's are doing just about nothing and the NDP is insisting it has the one and only solution.

Oops! CPoC Touts Consumer Protection with Photo of Helmetless Rollerbladers

Whooee! Well friends an' foes, I see that the Con's are up on their hindlegs crowin' about how they're Protecting Canadian Families with new consumer protection rules. They say:
When it comes to protecting consumers, the choice is clear. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservative Government are taking real action to keep Canadians safer and healthier. The Stéphane Dion Liberals must answer to Canadian families for their record of inaction, weak leadership, and unacceptable risk. (emphasis mine. JB)

Most authorities on health and safety are in agreement. Inline skating is inherently dangerous and is the cause of hundreds of injuries annually. Most of the serious cases are head injuries and most could have been minimized or eliminated if the skaters were wearing helmets, as recommended by experts from Sick Kids Hospital (PDF) and many other consumer and child safety organizations.

Here's a little tip fer the ConMen. If yer talkin' about protecting families, try to find a photo where responsible parents are following universally accepted safety precautions. Promoting the use of rollerblades without adequate protection against head injuries creates an unacceptable risk.

Before the cries of "Nanny State! Nanny State!" start, let me say that I'm not (at least in this boog story) advocating mandatory helmet use for adults. Children, however, are vulnerable and parents must do what they can to ensure their offspring will reach adulthood without suffering preventable, debilitating injury. Kids should wear helmets when a serious, proven risk of head injury exists.

Warmonger Parties Compromise - More Canadians to Die for Nothing

Whooee! Well friends an' foes, both the Cons and the Grits are up on their hindlegs crowin' about how Parliament works and a great compromise on Afghanistan is proof of it. Both sides are sayin' they gave only a little and both sides are sayin' the other side blinked.

I figger both Dion and Harper compromised for one reason only: to save their political asses. Neither wants to go to the polls over Afghanistan. If Harper forces an election and fails to increase the CPC seat count, he faces a leadership challenge. Dion doesn't want to go to the polls over anything.

This great compromise between the two warmongers means another two years of Canada propping up Karzai's CIA-backed, warlord-ruled Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Two more years of working hand-in-hand with corrupt Afghans who torture some prisoners but release 60%-70% for bribes as low as $20.

Two more years of Canadian deaths and maiming. Two more years of supporting Sharia Law and death penalties to Christian converts and free-speech advocates who dare to question fundamentalist Islam.

So far, we've spent $6,100 million on the military effort. At the same time, we've spent only $741 million on reconstruction. We're informed that about 90% of the reconstruction and aid money is siphoned off to bribes and corruption. Two more years of a lopsided mission where seek-and-destroy takes a front seat to aid-and-rebuild and Afghanistan sinks even lower on the international economic index.

The numbers tell the story:

  • The report calculates that Canada spent $6.1 billion on its military effort in the central Asian country between fiscal 2000-01 and 2006-07.
  • The total financial aid between 2001-02 and 2006-07 was $741 million.
  • The report said Canada's average annual spending is $100 million, although the total jumped to $250 million in 2006-07.
  • There are about 2,500 military personnel deployed in Afghanistan.
  • In comparison, there are 47 civilian government employees assigned to the country: at the embassy in Kabul, at Kandahar Airfield and in the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) office in Kandahar City.
  • Of the 335 PRT team members, 315 are military personnel.
    (Source - CTV.ca)
The war is unwinnable. The writing has been on the wall for decades, if not centuries. Afghanistan cannot be conquered by an invading army. We are throwing away the lives of our dedicated soldiers.

And now, we're going to throw away more of those lives for another two years.

For nothing more than to prevent an unwanted and unwinnable election, the Grits and Cons have ganged up to force and unwanted and unwinnable war on Canadians. Neither party deserves any credit. Both deserve only blame and scorn.

Motorized "sport" is anti-Earth - Cons true colours ain't green

Whooee! I see a lotta Canajun boogers are postin' up boog stories on the Conservatives sponsorship of a NASCAR racecar. I left a bigass comment over at Steve V's Far and Wide boog. I'm recyclin' that comment here.

You don't get converts by preachin' to the choir. NASCAR is big down in Merka with Red State Republicans. Canajuns, not so much. Green Canajuns, not at all.

Unlike the marginally enlightened bunch at the Indy 500, NASCAR has not embraced the concept or practice of using alternate fuels. That don't matter much since ethanol or E85 ain't really a solution or even a step in the right direction. Incredibly, 2007 is the first season for NASCAR to adopt unleaded gasoline.

The average NASCAR vehicle gets between 2 and 5 miles per US gallon. The average NASCAR weekend race emits 20-40 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Dozens of these events are being held every weekend 10 months of the year, mostly (but hardly exclusively) in the southern Merkan states.

The CPC is glorifying the waste of precious fossil fuel and endorsing the needless emission of tonnes of GHG's. At the same time, they're adopting the Merkan mentality that NASCAR is a popular "sport" that can be capitalized upon.

Those who really care about Mother Earth, don't go ga-ga over powerful gas-guzzlers racin' around a track for no other reason than sheer spectacle.

Motorized "sport" is anti-Earth.

That goes fer recreational ATV's, dirt bikes, Sunday drives in the family Hummer, speedboat races, lawn mower races and every other non-productive waste of fossil fuel.

The CPC showin' its true colours has opened the door for those really concerned about the environment. Now, the others parties can sponsor environmentally-friendly recreational activities and events.

If this don't blow up in Harpoon's face (even without the Bourque connection), then the opposition will have missed a golden opportunity to showcase who cares about green stuff and who gives lip service while they pour cash into GHG bad boys NASCAR.

I'm lookin' fer party endorsements and sponsorship of things like canoe races, sailboat races, solar-powered car races, footraces, bike races, swimmin' races, rowin' races. Maybe even chicken chariot races.

Almost anything'd be better than sponsorin' NASCAR, sez I.

Does Harper Government Support Anti-Abortion Activists?

Whooee! Well friends and foes, I was just over to JJ, the Unrepentent Old Hippie's boog. JJ posted this here YouTube of a bigass anti-abortion march up on Parliament Hill. There's a big banner with the official trademark of the Government of Canada. Seems they call it the Canada Wordmark and it's protected so nobuddy supposed to use it without permission. Frank Frink's found another YouTube that shows the official wordmark in English and in French.

Yeow! Sometimes I get my knickers in a twist when I see that "Canada" logo at the end of some dumbass TV show or movie. That tells me that our tax money went into helpin' get the Trailer Park Boys on Showcase. I reckon there's some Canajuns who maybe think that the gummint oughta fund anti-abortion groups and dumbass TV shows.

When I see the wordmark in the credits of Trailer Park Boys, I take it as a bigass indication that the Gummint of Canada gave 'em some dough. When I seen that wordmark on the March for Life banner, I reckon it indicates official gummint suport.

I hope we find out if Parliament is funding the folks who march on Parliament. Anybuddy know?

Hidden Agenda Exposed - Lightbulbs and No-Fly List

Whooee! Well friends and foes, the HarpoonTossers' hidden agenda's startin' to see the light of day.
  • Who'da thought they'd be turnin' Canada into a nanny state where the government tells everybuddy what kinda lightbulbs they gotta use?
  • Who'da thought they'd cave in to them AlGoreDavidSuzukiTreeHuggin' Climate Change lunatics?
  • Who'da thought they'd give billions an' billions of TROC's luckybucks to Q-beck so's they can buy votes?
  • Who'da thought Bev Oda'd be chauffeured around in bigass limousines and givin' away slush fund money in Con ridings in a secret program?
  • Who'da thought they'd shift blame for their own incompetence on to our good military fellers an' gals?
  • Who'da thought they'd be so much like them dang Liberals we just got rid of?
Not these guys. Yeow! They wanna bring back the old Reform Party. Who can blame 'em? They're the ones who fought hardest fer King Steve an' they're the ones with egg all over their faces now that his secret agenda's been exposed.

Good thing fer the ConMen they got a brand new powertool in their polytickle tool chest - Stockboy's No-Fly List.

The No-Fly list is a godsend fer the Con's. They just need to get the right people on the list. Like they already got Stephane Dion's wifemate Janine Krieber on their No-Talk List. If they can get Dion, Layton an' Link Byfield on the No-Fly List, them enemies of the state'll have a tough time stumpin'.

I reckon PitBullBoy Baird can sell this No-Fly list on the GHG reduction angle. Keepin' all them polyticians grounded is gonna make us meet our Clean Air Act targets.

Poll: Canadians Losing Confidence in Cons

Whooee! Well friends an' foes, I got another 3-R boog story today. I'm Reducin' my typewritin' workload by Re-usin' a comment I posted over to Far an' Wide in a Recycled version.

The topic was the latest publick 'pinion polls an' how bad the Cons is doin'. The polls point at Afghanistan and the Con green plan as the bigass troublems fer the HarpoonTossers.

Afstan's their big troublem right now, fer sure. I figger lotsa Canajuns is confuddled about green stuff but they ain't got any doubts about human decency issues like torture and the Geneva Conventions. Fer the most part, there ain't any vested interests in the torture industry who's denyin' the validity of the Geneva Conventions.

The climate change skeptics have done their best to obfuscate and confuddle the public. Seeds of doubt were planted by Harper himself (he was against green action before he was for it) and other big oil spokespersons and astroturf pseudo-science front organizations. When people ain't sure what to think, I reckon they're more willin' to give the gummint the benefit of the doubt.

The Cons got the reins on a wave of anti-Liberal sentiment based on AdScam corruption and a (rightly) percieved Liberal attitude of entitlement. Transparency and accountability were lacking and the new guys would be fixin' that pronto.

Now, people who pay attention can see the Cons doin' the selfsame things and doin' their dangedest to be non-transparent and unaccountable. A lot o' people don't pay much attention, though, and they're still dwellin' on the past sins of the Grits. Almost like they're gettin' reminded everyday of "13 years of blah, blah, blah..."

Trouble fer the Grits: glass house syndrome. The Cons is buryin' themselves in their own hypocrisy. Grits'd be smart to let the Dips an' Greens point out that hypocrisy lest they look hypocritical, themselves.

The biggest problem with Afstan ain't the detainee issue. That's part of it but the big problem is the failure of the mission. Now that the Afghan parliament wants NATO to quit with the seek and destroy tactics, we really need to reassess our role. Grits can point out how the original humanitarian nation-building mission has become a series of offensive actions and even the people we're supposedly fighting for are not happy about the direction we've taken since Harper took charge.

I like non-PC boxing metaphors. I'm a dinosaur that way. The Cons is on the ropes. All the jabs and body blows with O'Connor, Oda, Rona, Baird, etc. are takin' their toll. The Grits don't have the muscle fer the knockout punch, though, and the Cons ain't throwin' in the towel. There's a few more rounds to go before an election and right now, the Cons is losin' on points.

Stop Canada's New Government from Calling Itself Canada's New Government

Whooee! Well there's plenty of discouragin' stuff in the news and on the boogs this mornin'.

The HarpoonTossers been doin' polytickle 'pinion pollin' an' they ain't tellin' what they polled about even though it's the law an' they spent a $100,000+ on the poll. How many other polls have they been doin'?

It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so dang hypocritical. The Cons is all up on their hindlegs huffin' an' puffin' about the Grits 'pinion polls when they was callin' the shots.

An' they been doin' more untendered buyin' fer the army. They just spent $8.8 million on some new armoured vehicles that'll help keep our army guys from gettin' their asses blowed off while they're fightin' the good fight fer Taliban Hamid an' his opium-financed warlord regime. Now, there's a cause worth ruinin' Canada's international reputation for. There's a bunch worth trustin' to treat prisoners humanely.

When I started this boogin' rant, I was mainly gonna write all about this funny petition I seen over to Cerberus's fine boog. The petition is fer gettin' the HarpoonTossers to leave off callin' 'emselves "Canada's New Government." That ain't the funny part. The funny part is when the petition sez they hafta start callin' 'emselves "Canada's Newish Government."

Here's a link to the petition.

Last week, there was a petition presented to the House o' Comments wantin' Bigfoot on the endangered species list. Maybe this petition'll make it to the House. It'd be good to see if the HarpoonTossers can laff at themselves. I ain't seen much self-deprication in polyticks so I ain't holdin' my breath.

Canadians to Cons: "You'll get the keys when you prove you can drive."

Whooee! Well friends an' foes, I was just over to Red Tory's boog. Red's got one o' the best boogs in Canada, sez I. He gets some o' the best yammerin' gabfests goin' on in his comments department. Today, Red posted up a boog story on the latest publick 'pinion polls an' how the HarpoonTossers been stuck at pretty much the same place since they come in.

I left me a comment over there to Red's boog an' I'm reducing my boogin' workload by re-usin' that comment here on my boog in a recycled version.

I figger we're treatin' the Cons like adolescents. We still ain't sure if we should trust 'em with the keys to the family chugmobile. We're lettin' 'em drive but we ain't lettin' do it without some backseat drivin' from the opposition. If the Cons could convince Canajuns they got the right stuff an' they're haffway qualified to steer, they'd probbly get a majority an' the keys to Canada.

The way they been lurchin' an' swervin' on AfghanaStreet ain't instillin' any confidence.

They ain't helpin' themselves with all the stallin' an' stop-startin' an' wrong turns they been takin' on GreenStreet, neither.

I reckon they oughta start listenin' to the backseat drivers. They sure need advice on how to keep 'er in gear.

CPoC: Nattering Nabobs of Negativitity

Whooee! I was just over to Steve V's Far and Wide boog. Steve's askin' if we need an election right away. He talks about Kyoto an' the Clean Air Act an' Baird's gloomy predictions. There's some commenters who are echoin' Baird's BS. I posted up a bigass comment an' decided to reduce work by re-usin' that comment in a recycled version fer this here boog story.

Do we need an election? Eventually, yes. (It's a democracy, after all) Now? Not necessarily. The anti-Harper side needs some time to consolidate it's message an' tell Canajuns what's what.

The "all vs. nothing" premise is being argued by Baird an' some commenters over at Steve's boog. Dumb!

Numerous Yerpean countries have complied with Kyoto an' they ain't all beggin' in the streets an' drivin' dog-carts to the welfare office.

There's gold in them thar green actions an' Baird's BS ain't prospectin' fer it or talkin' about it. Green-collar job creation, carbon tradin' an' innovative energy reduction are all potential plusses fer the economy.

If the Grits wanna win, they gotta talk to Canajun pride. The Cons is all natterin' nabobs of negativity. The Cons say Canajuns is too weak an' stoopid to to save energy, reduce GHG's an' do like the Yerpeans. Cons got an inferiority complex an' they're sellin' their CANTDO attitude to Canajuns.

We ain't weaklings. We ain't stoopid. We can do anything the Yerpeans can do. We got a well-educated workforce, established industrial infrastructure, easy access to US markets and a desire to do our part on the world stage.

Grits an' Greens an' Dips an' even the rotten separatist BlocHeads gotta show Canajuns that the Cant-do Cons is all wrong. The Con message is one of hopelessness in the face of unavoidable environmental catastrophe. Who wants to accept that? Not the smart, proud, Can-do Canajuns I know.

Between now an' whenever we finally do have an electionvote, the anti-Harper bunch oughta be talkin' positive. When Baird sez Kyoto'll ruin the economy, Canajuns gotta get told about how 1.) environmental action and prosperity can go hand-in-hand and 2.) Baird's fudged the figures to fit the CPoC Negative Nelly Can't-do Canajuns-are-nincompoops attitude.

We can do it. We want to be told we can do it. We want leaders who are positive an' forward-thinkin'.

Polyticians are short-term thinkers. Their goals seldom go beyond winning the next election. They make false promises to win short term support.

But Canajuns are smarter than that. Canajuns are some of the biggest savers and savviest investors. Despite our user-unfriendly mortgage system, proportionally more Canajuns own homes an' property than Merkans.

Canajuns understand longterm investment. We're smart enough to understand short-term pain for long-term gain. More'n'more boomers is becomin' grannies an' grampaws an' we're worryin' about the kinda Earth we're leavin' to the grandkids.

Grits an' all anti-Cons need to develop a strategy that speaks to positivism and works for long term goals. The Cons came in on an antiGrit, antiCorruption wave. The Grits can come back but not simply with an anti-Harper message. The message needs to be pro-Canada, pro-Earth -- pro-gressive.

Conservative Conspicuous Consumption

Whooee! I seen on the Lloyd Robertson TV News Show last night the HarpoonTossers got themselves a bigass new campaign office with a bigass TV studio an' a buncha computers an' cubicles an' they're showin' it off t' the press. Over t' Accidental Deliberations, they was on about the wastefulness an' I see it, too.

They're sayin' the press got a look-see at a room with a hunnert computers all runnin' but nobuddy workin'.

Howcum they need t' waste electricity like that?

Howcum PitBullBoy Baird was braggin' up the war room when it's a perfect example of wastin' energy?

These guys showin' off their fancyass new toys is about as enviro-conscious as yer average Hummer driver.

If the Harpoon gummint replaced every single incandescant light bulb with CFB's in every single gummint-owned, gummint-leased or gummint-controlled building, I betcha we'd be able t' shut down one o' Ginty's coal-fired generators. If the Cons was serious about ol' Mother Earth, they'd implement a procurement policy that made 'em buy hybrid or ultra-fuel-efficient vehicles fer their gummint fleets. If they was serious, they'd refuse t' use them limo services that show up in bigass Crown Vic's an' Caddies an' Lincolns an' they'd be takin' the transit or a hybrid taxicab.

Same goes fer Ginty's Liberals in Ontariariario an' probbly fer every other provinkal gummint.

The Cons ain't conservers. They're consumers an' their conspicuous consumption sets a bad example fer all Canajuns.

The Budget Ain't So Great

Whooee! Well friends an' foes, I been readin' up on this here budget an' I was over t' StageLeft again an' I left a bigass comment that I'm gonna copy here fer my own boog. I'm a lazyass, fer sure.

I reckon the First Nations came in first, again. First forgotten. Like Balbulican sez, they been settin' on report after report an' study after study an' commission after commission givin' 'em a clear direction but they didn't do nuthin'. It makes me wonder if they ain't just itchin' fer more Caledonia, Ipperwash, Oka things t' spring up outta the frustration.

The Cons got their traditional allies — the rotten separatist BlocHeads — votin’ with ‘em so the budget ain’t gonna trigger an election, by the looks of it. Don't it seem funny t' anybuddy -- 'specially Albertans -- that the BQ is always backin' Harpoon an' he's givin' Q-beck money like there ain't no tomorrow?

Newfy an’ Sasky figger they got shortchanged along with the Natives. Tiny populations, few votes. I seen DannyBoy on Duffy yesterday. He was mighty pissed off at Flaherty an’ at Harpoon fer breakin’ a written promise on the non-renewable resources.

The green stuff in the budget ain’t knockin’ anybuddy’s sox off, neither. Some of it’s just re-announcin’ stuff they announced over the past few weeks an’ that was mostly just restartin’ Liberal green stuff under new names.

The car tax thing is gettin’ a lotta gush from the MSM. It has some loopholes an’ it needs tweakin’.

The phase-out of tax breaks to the tar sands is slow an’ drawn out. It don’t reflect the reality that these here tar sands are plenty profittable without any help from the taxpayers. This was a Liberal-started thing that they coulda scrapped right away when they took office like they scrapped all sortsa other Liberal things. If they cared about the environment as much as the care about the bottom line of these developers, they'd o' scrapped it already an' not with a multi-year phase out.

Not a mention of the word “Kyoto” but Canada is a signatory to that international treaty and we should be making provisions that are seen in budget items. The House o’ Comments just gave Harpoon 60 days to come up with a Kyoto plan. Why ain’t there anything about that in the budget?

I betcha most Canajuns’ll be happy as Larry t’ just coast along with another feel-good liberal budget — only this time it was the Cons who drafted it. Soothin'. Very soothin'.
