Attawapiskat Needs School, Afghanistan Takes Priority

Whooee! Well friends an' foes, my boogin' buddy and ofttimes sparring partner, Cam Holmstrom, is agitatin' fer a school fer the kids up in Attawapiskat. We been hearin' a lot about how us Canajuns is buildin' schools over in Hamid Karzai's warlord-ruled opium-financed torture den, The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. How 'bout we spread a little of that edu-love here in our home and native land?

That pasty-faced, eyeliner-wearing, psychic-consultin', Bush-worshippin', war-mongerin', hypocrit we call Pryminister is still dolin' out $1.4 billion per year to his big oil buddy-boys up in the Athabasca tar sands. Yet, we got First Nations folks with no schools and not even clean drinkin' water. Not only that, the permafrost is meltin' out from under 'em and Harpoon ain't got even a whiff of a plan to deal with climate change.

I say good on Cam fer callin' attention in the boogeysphere and bad on the gummint fer neglectin' our kiddies up north.

Update: Fergot to mention there's an online petition you can sign and it's goin' to Chuck Strahl.

Thanks for the kind words and the help JB. These kids have done such great things so far in making their case and I hope that our collective voices can push this over the top.

I took a 'wee look through Harpers "Stand Up For Canada" platform document last night and found this

Every year for twelve years the Liberals have paid lip service to aboriginal issues. But their real legacy is bad water, bad schools, and bad housing. Every year aboriginal spending goes up, but life for Canada’s aboriginal peoples keeps getting worse. And meanwhile the disputes, claims, and lawsuits pile up.

The Liberals should be ashamed of themselves. It’s time for a new approach.

If Harper thinks the Liberals should be ashamed of bad schools what should the Conservatives be after making the claim and then doing exactly the same thing?

... the only difference is the colour of their ties.

You ain't just whistlin' O Canada, SL. Here in my neck o' the woods, we still got the Caledonia claim dispute goin' on after two years. Diane Finley's our absentee MP. Up in Brantford, they got several development sites under dispute and nobody's doin' diddly.

Yer right as rain. The Grits and Cons are cut from the same cloth. Sorryass apologies don't build schools or water treatment plants.

This oughta play well with the Vancouver Olympics comin' up. Another embarrassment for Canada and more holier-than-thou hypocrisy on public display.

"Yet, we got First Nations folks with no schools and not even clean drinkin' water."

There's no reason why they can't open their own schools and obtain drinking water on their own initiative. Has the welfare state ethos penetrated so deeply that people are helpless?

P.S. I found your blog via a comment on Green Assassin Brigade.

Don't be a such a twit Steve, are you really totally and completely ignorant of whose responsibility this falls under? Educate yourself regarding the constitutionally binding treaties and land claims agreements will you.

--- sheesh, there's so very little worse in this world than people opening their pie holes when they don't know what they're talking about.
